More Burke Fly-in Photos

Here are some photos taken by Jeff Snyder of JLS Photo. Since they are AWESOME photos of me landing and taxiing the Arrow and a couple of cute ones of Kaden, I thought I'd share them here.

Kewpee/Lima YMCA Triathlon-Duathlon 2007

I did the duathlon (2 mile run/30k bike/5k run) in 1 hour 56 minutes. I ended up getting 3rd in my age group. Check out the race website by clicking here.

Lessons learned:

- don't ride a mountain bike in a road race
- watch how you open your Gatorade bottle as to not down-shift accidentally
- go harder, earlier in the end of the 5K

This was a LOT of fun and I hope to get a road bike sometime so I can be a bit more competitive. Also, I am planning to start swimming so I can do the triathlon next time. I felt like I was cheating by substituting the run for the swim, but I have never trained in swimming. Next time -- yeah.

Anyway, loads of fun and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to bike and run. Can't wait for the next one!

Another 5K in about two weeks...

Dayton Air Show 2007

Good performances. Good static displays. Good photos taken.

RIP -- Jim LeRoy

Here are just a few of them...

Kaden Outside This Morning

We all hit the deck this morning for coffee and some cereal. It poured last night and the deck is still a bit wet. This morning is beautiful at 72F and clear skies.

(The first and last photos are of him dancing to the outdoor music.)

Outdoor Deck Speakers - Installed and Working

Oh, man. These things are SWEET. I finally got them mounted and wired to the Denon receiver. After 15 minutes of hanging, 10 minutes of wiring and 90 minutes of reading the manual, I finally got the speakers working. I can't get the TV sound to go, but I can get the tuner and an iPod going through.

Lovin' it!

Hop To Huntington and Back

I flew Bob and Linda to Huntington to pick up their Cheetah today with the new S-Tec 30 installed. We had some headwinds and IMC on the way there at 4,000' and then IMC and lots of rain at 5,000' on the way home. The tailwinds were nice on the way back.

Rain while fueling up in Bluffton made for a nice, cool 64F here in mid-July.

Another Deck Update

Laura's dad got the stair posts installed and all the railing is up. Also, we had a landscaper come out today to put together a quote to redo all the landscaping around the entire house and add some stuff too.

Day Trip to BKL (Cleveland)

We all loaded up the plane around 10am today and blasted off to the NE towards Cleveland. I decided not to file IFR since I've heard they vector you way over the water to keep you out of the Class B airspace. Fair enough, but I don't feel like being THAT far away from land when I can just fly under their airspace with terra firma underneath. The flight over had some scattered clouds above us and was a bit on the bumpy side. Either way, we made it to BKL and got a great view of the shore and the downtown skyline.

I was going to meet up with some SP.com folks and was finally able to meet many people I've talked to for years via the web. They were all as nice as could be. You tend to find that with the pilot sector anyhow. Also, Dave G was there in his RV-6 and I was able to park right next to him.

We all chatted on the tarmac for awhile and then made our way over to the science museum for some food and then parted ways. Laura, Kaden and I sat with Jamie and Tom from CT. They took a LONG flight to get here! It was good to meet them. Here are the members that showed up: me, Scott, Jim, Barry, Jeff, Jerry, Karl, Jamie and Tom. (I don't think I missed anyone.)

After walking through the museum a little, watching some MotoX from the hill by the R&R HoF, we strolled back to the plane and made our way back to Bluffton. I never saw another plane on the way home and it stayed beautiful. It was a bit bumpy, but you'll have that in July. What a great trip!

Deck Update

After a long day of work by Laura's brother and dad and a few hours of my help once I got home from my Indiana trip, we finished the decking materials that make up the floor. We still need to install stairs and railing.

It's coming together!

More Races

I just signed up for the Kewpee/YMCA Duathlon. I was going to go for the triathlon, but I can't swim very well for extended times and I don't have time to train for that. The duathlon should be fun, anyhow.

I also signed up for the Lima YMCA/Memorial Health System River Run (5K) and the Square Fair 5K. All three races are within two weeks of each other starting July 29th.

Find more races at the Lima Run 'n Jog Club website.
