Colorado - Day Four

Our last day in Colorado was a pretty lazy day. We slept in and then went down to Einstein Bagel and Starbucks for some coffee. We showered, packed our stuff up and then checked out right around 11am.

Our first stop was Cherry Creek Shopping Center again to look at dresses for Laura. She finally ended up finding one. Whew! We bought Kaden another shirt at J. Crew and decided we better leave before we were completely out of money.

We drove up to Angelo's on 6th Avenue, but they were closed. Noooooo!!! Bummer. We ended up eating lunch at Old Chicago, right across the street from Buca Di Beppo. It wasn't great, but I don't think we were all that hungry for how much we ordered. Oops.

We cruised over to REI to walk around and see the river again. The water was really flowing today over those rocks. I looked at some HRM's there. The Suunto is pretty nice, but they didn't have much of a selection on those or the Polar's. I just can't decide.

After REI, we drove to the airport, filled the rental back up, took a 1/2 hour nap in the parking lot and then returned the car. Our flight was a little delayed, but we made it in just about on-time. Being in the 1st row helped along with watching TV the entire way back. I must say that I dig the $5 DirectTV on Frontier Airlines.

Good trip overall. We did a lot, kept busy and saw a lot of stuff.

Colorado - Day Three

Another long (fun) day! We woke up around 6:30am to be dressed and done eating breakfast (again) at Sams #3 by 7:30am so we could be in Idaho Springs by 8:45am. Well, we were there around 8:15am, so I guess traffic isn't an issue on an early Saturday morning in Denver. Oh well.

We headed to Idaho Springs to do the Full Day Advanced run with Clear Creek Rafting Company. This is a white water rafting trip of 19 miles and goes through rapids up to IV/V. We did this same trip two years ago and it seemed tougher then. Either way, the water today was around 40F (they claimed) and it felt every bit of it. We both had wet suits, booties, gloves, splash jacket, life vest, helmet and some other "warm layers" on underneath. Brrrr....

This was over around 2:45pm and we headed back to Denver for a nap and a shower. We decided to eat dinner at Buca Di Beppo. This is an Italian chain that is owned by Italians and the portions are HUGE. The food is good, however, and we left there stuffed.

We walked down to the Tattered Cover and read for an hour or so on one of the couches. We walked back to the hotel with a stop at Gelazzi for some homemade gelato. Yum!

The rest of the night is to chill out and go to bed early. We're beat!

Colorado - Day Two

We started the day around 9am when we finally woke up. We headed over to Sam's #3 for a big breakfast and then headed out to Colorado Mills for some shopping. We did some shoe shopping at Sketchers, some Kaden clothes shopping at Gymboree.

At 1:25pm, we caught the new movie released today called Mr. Brooks. It is a mystery/thriller starring Kevin Costner, Demi Moore and Dane Cook. Very good movie - highly recommended by both of us.

After the movie, we spent some time and too much money at the Eddie Bower Factory Outlet. We went to dinner at The Fort from there which is located in Morrison. We met my mom and John there and had a great dinner of bison (buffalo), elk and quail along with some other stuff. The staff also wished Laura a happy 29th birthday.

After dinner, we all headed over to the Norah Jones concert at Red Rocks. It was getting chilly, but the concert was a good time and ended around 10:15pm. After two wrong turns and good traffic back to Denver, we were back at the hotel around 11am.

Colorado - Day One

Alarm goes off at 3:45am. Out the door before 4:30am. Airborne at 6:30am from Dayton for a direct flight into DIA. What a day. (Also, this was the first time I've ever seen anyone order pizza from Sbarro at 5am. Way to go, Laura!)

We got into Denver and got our rental car and headed into town. We ended up at Cherry Creek Shopping Center for Laura to do some dress shopping. Once they finally opened, we spent a little over 2 hours walking around. I had a good chat with Corey T. and she found a couple options.

Around noon, we headed to our hotel in Downtown Denver, The Curtis, to check-in. Cool hotel! We got a great rate, but I think it's because they've only been open for 5 months and are still building the pool/gym area and the restaurant won't be open for another 10 days. Oh well. You can't beat an average room rate of $109 for downtown in this sweet place. Big rooms, fun place.

My mom and John headed down and met us at the hotel for lunch. We walked down to the 16th Street Mall and ended up at the Rock Bottom Brewery. Wow! Fantastic food and brew choices. I had the Mac and Chicken and Laura had the Monte Cristo. Both tasted great and I'm now a fan of the MC.

After a few hour nap at the hotel, we headed off in search of some dinner. We walked west on 16th St for awhile and then south a bit to check out Larimer Square. We ended up at the old Paramount Cafe and had some chips/salsa, soup and chicken sandwich. Awesome!

After dinner, we went to see Shrek the Third and then back to the hotel for bed. Shrek 3 was OK, but I think the second was funnier. I did see some funny trailers for some up and comers.

Colorado - Day 4

Today was another good day around Denver. After a 3.6 mile run (don't ask) in Loveland and Laura and Kaden enjoying the park, we headed down to Denver around noon. We stopped at Old Chicago restaurant for lunch. Great food!

We went to the convention center and I set up my booth for the show tomorrow while Kaden napped and Laura parked at Rocky Mtn Lake Park while he slept. She came and got me when I was done.

We headed down to Parker and looked around a bit. We went downtown and played at the park there at the corner of Main St and S Parker Rd (Obrien Park). We drove back to Denver via Arapaho to see Centennial Airport and then got stuck in rush hour. Dang. After taking a short cut down Lincoln, we made it to LoDo where we had some Rio Grande Mexican food.

After a little bit in REI and Starbucks, we headed back to Loveland when Kaden fell asleep in his car seat.

Great day!

Colorado - Day 3

Today was a fun day out and about. I started the day with a 3 mile run in Loveland by running from the house to the Statue Park. It was a good run with minimal effect from the altitude. I must not be running hard enough.

After some breakfast, showers and so forth, we headed out for Denver. We drove to Highlands Ranch to check out the area and walked around the Town Center area. When we checked out a couple churches, drove through the neighborhoods and then came back to the Town Center for some lunch.

We headed out and drove around the Skyridge Hospital off I-25 and then up into downtown Denver to Washington Park. We stayed there for a couple hours. We then headed up to the Cherry Creek Shopping Center to relax and have a quick snack. We spent another hour or so at Cheeseman Park and then headed to Angelo's on Sixth & Washington. Great Italian!

By now, it was almost 8pm and we headed back to Loveland for the evening. It was a good day and Kaden was beat.

Colorado Trip - Day 5

Well, I'm home. After a good night's sleep and then some lunch at D'Corazon in Denver with Sam, I headed to the airport and hopped the 3pm NWA flight to DTW. After a rainy drive home, I'm ready to get back to life.

It was a great trip and I can't wait (as usual) to get back to Colorado!

And here's a photo of the lady that sat next to me. I guess she may have had SARS or something?

Colorado Trip - Day 4

I was up early again this morning and had some coffee with my mom. I headed out and ended up in Greeley to hangout with Jeff and Don for a few hours before going to Denver. We loaded some mags with ammo and sat outside chatting while it rained a little bit.

We headed out around 3pm for some Red Robin. After enjoying a Royal Red Robin (the one with the egg), I headed down to Denver and checked in to the Magnolia Hotel in downtown Denver.

I showered and headed to the Paramount Cafe to meet up with Sam and Mark - a couple more buddies from SP.com. We had a couple beers and some grub. I went back to the hotel to watch some MNF and went to bed early - 1030p or so.

Colorado Trip - Day 3

This morning I got up at 515am to shower and leave Loveland at 6am. I drove down through the fog and rain to Leadville, CO to meet up with a buddy I met on StudentPilot.com. He offered me the chance to go up in a 172 and check out the valley from the air. It was beautiful!

The weather was very nice - mostly cloudy, but high enough to fly around and get some good photos. We cruised around the valley for about 30-45 minutes and then landed back in Leadville. We had some lunch and then had some lunch in Frisco while watching some Broncos football.

This evening, we went to eat in downtown Loveland at a chophouse. Good chicken!

Colorado Trip - Day 2

Today dawned rainy and gloomy. (Why does it rain every time I'm here?) John and I ended up going for some Amber Boch around 10am and started on those right away. It was going to be a good day.

We headed to the wedding around 1pm. It was down the canyon at the Viestenz-Smith Park on 34. It was very nice and the rain started right after it was over. We all headed back to the house for cake and fun. John's father brought his 81 year old fire engine over for a little drive. Sweet!

After watching a little football, we ended up eating dinner at the Outback Steakhouse and watching OSU whip on Texas. Woohoo!!
