Last night, I was playing with Windows Movie Maker 2. I threw some filters on just to see what the videos looked like and happened upon the "half speed" (a.k.a. slow motion) filter. Oh man, what a riot it was to hear Laura and Kaden in some videos she took a week or two ago.
This just proves, once again, that slo-mo makes everything better and more enjoyable.

Sunset Flight With Mom and Dad
We went up in the Arrow for 30 minutes on the Hobbs right at sunset. It was beautiful - cool, smooth and clear. The perfect evening for a sightseeing flight over Lima and Ada no more than 1000' AGL the entire time.
Glad you two had fun! It was good to finally get you back in the air.

400+ Running Miles

I finally hit another milestone of running for the year. My goal from the beginning of the year is 500 miles of running, and I'm 4/5 of the way there. Within the next six weeks or so, I will cover well over 100 miles and make this goal on the way to, and completing, the Columbus Half Marathon. Wish me luck -- I'll need it.
Here are my current numbers after the 5.1 mile run last night:
Running: 404.6 miles
Time: 2 days, 11h 20m 44s
Avg. Pace: 8:48/mile
Cycling: 212.8 miles
Time: 12h 10m 35s
Avg. Pace: 3:26/mile
I wouldn't mind hitting 500 miles on the bike this year, as well. You can track all my progress on my Training Log.

Loramie Lake Traithlon 2007
Twenty-two miles and almost two hours later, we all made it. The Loramie Lake Triathlon 2007 was this morning at 8-ish in the rain and overcast skies. The temperature was in the low-70's, so it wasn't too bad. During the whole event, the rain eventually tapered off and a little bit of blue started peeking out.
Justin, Whitney, David and myself competed in a 3 mile canoe, 15 mile bike and 4 mile run race. Unfortunately, I signed up us for the M/M and M/F Open race which meant we all should have done all events. I meant to sign us up for a two-person relay, so that's how we ran it. Our times will probably all be wrong and/or DNF's, but it was fun either way.
The canoe started off rocky. At the beginning, they called "relay teams", so we jumped in and started. A few yells from the beach later and we realized that we weren't supposed to go yet. After a short paddle-of-shame and some applause, we pulled back onto the beach and tried to blend in with the crowd. (Bright-orange PFD's and all.) Once the real race started, Justin and David got a good, quick start, but Whitney and I were the last off the beach. Oh well. Three miles later, Justin and David were about three minutes ahead of us. We only had two or three canoes behind us.

We ran up the beach and to the bike area where I got ready to catch David. After spending too much time trying to get my gloves on, I was off. The road was wet, but not too much. There was really no standing water, so it posed no problem. I was down in the drops a lot of the race, trying to stay aero and make up as much time as possible to catch my dad. After 10 miles or so, I was finally right behind him and made my pass immediately after a dump truck passed, spraying water all over us. All he had to say was, "You dog! You're only the third person to pass me!" Since we were 2nd or 3rd from last to finish the canoe, I passed a lot of people on the bike. I averaged 19.8mph on the bike and did a final sprint up to 30.6mph. Zoom!

I got back and Whitney started off on her 4 mile run. I got off the bike, put it on the rack and, man, I was SORE! I've never been sore like that after a ride. I think it was from not stretching (rushed before the race) and then trying to race hard. David got in two minutes after me and then Justin was off quick. Apparently, he caught Whitney after a mile and a quarter and they ended up running together. The only trouble was some not-too-smooth water grabs at the aid stations. They came trotting in together after 35 minutes or so of running. Great job, you two!

Kaden also had his first race. They did a little 100-yard dash for all the kiddies and Kaden beat the other little guy his size. Go Team Fast! He got a little medal and everything that we'll save and put with mine in the new room. Woohoo!!

It was a great day and I wish we could have had better weather. Oh well. Such is the life of outdoor sports. I'm just glad nothing was delayed/canceled due to lightning or anything else. I had a great time and hope everyone else did too. I sure hope they decide to do it again with me!
Lunch was at the New Bremen Pizza Hut with some family. Thanks for the pizza, Bob and Sue!

Kaden's Antics
Here are some photos from the past week or so of Kaden doing different things. He's getting so big. He's using some very good sentences, his vocabulary is literally hundreds of words and he does so many things on his own now that it's hard to believe.
Kaden and Laura "cheers" with some chocolate chip cookies.
Kaden playing hide-and-go-seek with his spoons.
Kaden paints.
Kaden at the park.
Kaden plays in the sprinkler at home.
Make a funny face!
Kaden "hanging out" at the Ottawa Metro Park.
Kaden and I "hanging out" at the park.
Kaden helping me out of the slide.
And the final ride down the slide.

So I was looking through some old photos in a box a couple nights ago and I came across the photos I took in Kansas while I was at GATTS getting my instrument rating. I was flipping through some pretty awesome IMC shots of clouds and rain when I came across a photos of some fat guy. Oh. It was me. I set it aside to scan and did so a bit later.
Today, I figured what better way to show the difference than to take a photo outside. So, I took the photo on the right about 5 minutes ago. (Yes, I need to shave.) You can see the difference is a little over 50 pounds. At my heaviest, I was wearing 38/32 or 40/32, depending on the maker. A couple weeks ago, I just bought some Levi's and Lee jeans and khaki pants that are 32/32. Oh man, that's nice.
Hopefully the photo of me in September 2008 will be around 175 pounds and very lean. That would probably be ideal for doing triathlons. Carrying any extra baggage isn't good and I can still feel it when I run now. I just need to keep plowing ahead. (Six mile run tonight...)

Here is a little recap of the week's training. Next weekend is the Loramie Lake Triathlon. My dad, sister, brother and I are all signed up for 2-person teams. My sister and I are on one. It should be a blast!
