Flying With John P

After a little breakfast at the Lima Airport this morning, John P and I went up in his Traveler. He wanted to do a little testing of the autopilot, Garmin 496 and some air speeds. After a COLD 20-30 minutes in his 0 degree F hangar waiting for the engine to warm, we pulled it out and took off.

We went up and did some four direction speed runs at two altitudes. The indicated on both ended up being about 113 to 115, but I'm not sure what he found as his GPS averages. I'm sure they were higher.

After that, we tracked a VOR radial on his S-tec 30 autopilot and then flew over to the "big antenna" southwest of Lima. Within a mile or so under its top altitude, a big warning box showed on the Garmin. Success!

We tested the BC tracking of the AP and it worked just fine. (Gotta love new autopilots coupled to sweet Garmin stacks.)

After a go-around due to some nasty crosswind with the CFI looking on, John made a sweet landing right after Jim took off to break-in his new engine some more.

One word about this flight... BRRRRR!!!
